OPEN FACULTY POSITIONS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES of METU, TURKEY

Applications are invited for open faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor.

The Department of Biological Sciences at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey is inviting applications for:

1) Assistant Professor in Molecular Biology. We seek an individual broadly trained in Molecular Biology. For further inquiries and application package, please contact both Dr. Mesut Muyan (mmuyan@metu.edu.tr) and Dr. Sreeparna Banerjee (banerjee@metu.edu.tr).

2) Assistant Professor in Plant Biology.  We specifically seek a plant biologist who utilizes genomic and proteomics approaches and tools to address main research areas (stress physiology and adaptation) of plant physiology. Applicants trained in plant population genetics, dealing with the fundamental questions of plant biology are also encouraged to apply. 3) Assistant Professor in Systems Biology. The candidate is expected to have conducted research in study of systems of molecules, cells, organisms or entire species using integrated and holistic approaches. Expertise in systematic measurement methods using omics technologies and mathematical and computational models to describe and predict interactions between the system components is expected. We welcome applicants with broad backgrounds in Computational Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology. Successful candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in the relevant field with appropriate postdoctoral experience, a good publication record, and be committed to graduate and undergraduate teaching. The medium of teaching in METU is English. The successful applicant is expected to establish an independent research group and will be responsible for procuring extramural funding. These include TUBITAK reintegration fellowships (2232), TUBITAK young investigator grants (3501), TUBITAK research grants (1001/1002), Marie Curie Reintegration Grants, EMBO Installation Grants, ERC Starting Grants and Horizon 2020 grants. A dedicated Project Support Office (http://pdo.metu.edu.tr/) is available to assist applicants. Additionally, the University has a dedicated Technology Transfer Office that can assist with intellectual property issues and liaisons with industrial partners (https://bto.metu.edu.tr/).

The successful applicant will receive lab and office spaces, free access to the Department's common research infrastructure and the animal house, access to Central Laboratories of METU and be eligible for start-up funds from METU. Accommodation on campus is provided to eligible candidates.

Applications will be accepted until September 15, 2017. Evaluation will be completed by October 15, 2017 and selected applicants will be invited for a seminar after October 15, 2017. Decision regarding the position is expected to be announced by November 1, 2017.
